The Glow of Givenchy

What else could we expect from the designer when his models hit the catwalk for the Fall 2011 Couture showing. The designer himself said he was inspired by the "lightness and fragility" of paradise. Paradise was certainly found as the models glowed, and left shades of white dancing in our heads. We couldn't help but envision engaged celebs such as Kim K. walking down the aisle in some of the collection, which are fit for a wedding. Also fit for this collection, the tan you have been working on this summer. Now if only we could all convince our wallets and our fiances of the same thinking. *For more on the show and designer check out style.com, which is where the photos are courtesy of.*

Pulling a Plank

Let us be frank in regards to the plank. This horizontal position is no longer restricted to the workout routine. Instead, the plank itself is becoming a major hobby. People all over are attempting to perform the trick on street corners, rooftops, and park benches. They share the moment by posting pics on Facebook or sharing videos on youtube. While we have attempted the position in public places, we still don't see the hype. Yes, it's strange to see someone in public attempting this workout, and it gives new meaning to "assume the position" but we think it's a trend better restricted to the gym or at home. People are certainly thinking of clever ways to get in their workouts, and planking is the best way to obtain abs of steel. Just do it in the privacy of your own home, please. Unfortunately, since August 1 is national planking day, that looks like it won't be going away anytime soon. For more info on the date and planking itself check out the facebook event dedicated to the new pastime: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=223407604353497.

Ther Turban Goes Urban

It may seem inappropriate and well, politically incorrect, to associate the turban with a fashion trend, but the controversial turban is making its way on to the runway and making no qualms about it. The latest master to urbanize this trend has been Giambattista Valli who made his models sport the traditional headgear in a non-traditional way. This was achieved by taking stretch bondage fabric and using bobby pins to adhere it to the hair, which was also pinned up in a bun in the middle. The wrap was made like a perimeter with fabric missing from the top middle portion, which instead exposed the models' up-dos. While we have yet to see many Philadelphia residents sport this trend, it is definitely an east-coast native, making the rounds from runway to the streets of NYC. While we prefer the more traditional form, what do you think, is this new twist on the turban a trend up-do or up-don't?
