The ratings for the Oscars were High

Unfortunately, they weren't high in the traditional way. No, many critics said they thought the new tactic of attracting younger viewers using Hathaway and Franco was literally high! That is, many felt Franco gave a half-hearted effort in drawing laughs because he had been too busy smoking something funny backstage, while Hathaway tried to overcompensate for what he was lacking.
I think Franco just has a lot on his plate, and while Hathaway was trying too hard he was too tired from getting his doctorate to care enough. Yes, the results were boring, but when you realize there are more important things going on in the world then watching predictable nominations come to fruition for rich entertainers you don't care enough either. What do you think? Leave a comment with your take on it below.

Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough

If last night's Oscars after parties including the Governer's Ball and Vanity Fair afterparties were any indication, then Holyywood certainly could not get enough when it came to fashion. "Glee" star Lea Michele, Jessica Biel, Amanda Seyfried, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, may not have got an invite to the Oscars, but if they had they would've given the best dressed list a run for its money. So, instead we'll give a separate list for the after party.
As such the top 5 post Oscar best dressed included at number 5-Gwyneth Paltrow, again who stuck to wearing her gold Michael Kors gown she performed in to the after parties. At number 4 was Rosie in a gold Valentino with her best accessory, her beau Jason Statham on her arm. At number 3 was Lea Michele dressed in a open back blue sparkly Roberto Cavalli number. At number 2 was recently single Amanda Seyfried departing from length and keeping it short and sweet in an ivory ruffled and laced Valentino number. For number one is the stunning Jessica Biel, who made a splash arriving at Vanity Fair's party not only alone (her beau Justin Timberlake dissed her as a date) but proving to be quite the hit in a beige Autelier Versace floor length tight gown. Hugging every curve, and cutting edge with every slit, Miss Biel would have captured the ultimate crown of best dressed for the whole evening if Oscar hadn't forgotten her invite. However, keep your eye out for her. With new films up her sleeve, she may just take the throne at next year's awards.

She May Have Won an Oscar...

But Melissa Leo, who won for best supporting actress in "The Fighter" and also made history for being the first winner to drop the f* bomb dropped another bomb in the fashion department. Wearing a white and what seemed to be mirrored Marc Bouwer, the best supporting actress winner proved to be a loser in an ill-fitted, oddly detailed, futursitic and age inappropiate gown. Even so, she and Helena who shocked in basic black, still make a passing grade. There were no real flops this year even if they did make us do some flips, which is a nice rarity as everyone seemed to play it safe in classic cuts and shapes. But the fun isn't done. What is it that R. Kelly said? Oh yes, "after the show it's the after party!"

They May Not Have Won an Oscar...

But they certainly leave home with gold in the fashion department. It was hard to narrow it down so we will have to have a top 5. At number 5 was Cate Blanchett's if-y Givenchy gown. Some saw it as a bit too cutting edge, but that is what couture is. At number 4 came in Mila Kunis' Elie Saab lavender dress which put a twist on grecian goddesses, at number 3 was young Hailey Steinfeld who was age appropiate in a design she collaborated on, at number 2 was miss Halle Berry who was already a perfect ten and tipped the scales in this beige sparkly Marchesa gown. Finally, the number one spot went to....drum roll please....Gwyneth Paltrow in a silver sparkly Calvin Klein skin tight gown. Gwyneth proved that like a fine wine she gets better with age, and though she did not win a golden Oscar she proved that victories when it comes to fashion come in silver.

Ladies in Red

This was the theme at last night's Oscars. From host Anne Hathaway's vintage Valentino to Sandra Bullock's Vera Wang and Jennifer Hudson's rocking new slimmed down bod in that brick colored Versace, red made a splash and not just on the red carpet. As prom season comes around the corner, keep this color and the many other jewel tones from Mila Kunis' lavender gown to Natalie's plum Rodarte in mind. There were no real fails or misses except for the usual suspects (Helena), but even she made a passing grade in not so basic black. From the highs to the lows, the message was clear: the lady in red and color never goes out of style.
